HS Rules and Expectations

I sat down with my husband the other night and worked on defining some rules and expectations for our kids. None of this is new to them, just presented in a clearer, more defined way. Here is what we came up with...

Be Obedient:
~To do what someone tells you to do
Ephesians 6:1-4 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on earth.”
  • Obey the FIRST time with a happy heart!!!
Be Respectful:
~To admire and have a high opinion of someone
Leviticus 19:3 “Each of you must respect his mother and father”
1 Peter 2:17 “Show proper respect to everyone”
  • Use kind and considerate words to communicate your needs
  • Be self-controlled in your actions, words, and body language
  • Use your manners when speaking to others (yes mam, thank you, please)

Be Teachable:
~ To be humble; not proud, willing to recognize your own faults. To acknowledge the wisdom of your teacher and be willing to learn. To persevere; keep on trying and never give up even if faced with difficulties.
Ephesians 4:2 “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love”
James 5:11 “We consider blessed those who have persevered.”
  • Have a positive, “can-do” attitude
  • Do your best
  • Try your hardest
  • Be willing to try and learn new/difficult things
  • Listen attentively

Be self-disciplined:
~To have control over the way you behave and the choices you make
Proverbs 10:17 “He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.”
Proverbs 25:28 “Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control”

  • Be at the school table ready to begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Stay on task
  • Complete your assignments within time allowed
  • Stay seated at the table unless given permission to get up
  • Pay attention to your lessons only, not what is going on around you

As mentioned in a previous post, we have struggled with some specific behavior issues in the past. I am trying really hard to go into this new school year ready to confront these issues head-on and be prepared to correct undesirable behaviors quickly and efficiently without detracting from school too much. These are the expectations they are to meet in order to earn the maximum amount of points each day. I sure hope this new approach benefits us more than hinders us.
