Why We Homeschool

When I met my husband I had just recently graduated with a degree in Education and had my first public school teaching position. My soon to be husband was also a teacher working at a local high school. Once we were married and looking towards starting a family, we both felt strongly that public education was not the way to go for our family. Why? I'm glad you asked.

First and foremost this decision was made out of obedience to God. We felt strongly that God called us to homeschooling. Whether it is right for all families or not, we simply followed the prompting of our Lord. And with that knowledge, I have stuck out many tough home school days knowing without a doubt that this is what God has asked of my husband and I.

Coming from a public education background, I know there are a lot of great teachers and schools out there. However, teaching in the public schools also opened my eyes to a broken system. Many of you may passionately disagree and that is okay. Our goals and desires for educating our children just don't line up with those of the public education system. Plain and simple.

This blog will journal all that we do and all that we learn, what works and what doesn't, and just for fun it will serve as a "yearbook" of sorts for my children to look back at to see all that we have done during a particular school year. In just a few short weeks we will begin what will be my 6th home school year. (I started home school with my oldest when he was 3) My oldest son, Isaac (8), will be starting his 3rd grade year. My daughter, Julia (6), will be starting her 2nd grade year. And my youngest (for now) son, Caleb (2 almost 3), will be starting his first year of pre-K. Our fourth child, a baby boy, is due to arrive in November as well. It will be a busy year but hopefully a productive and enjoyable time of learning. We invite you to come along as we Learn with the Landes'!
